"We arrived 6 hours before checkin to leave our luggage and head to the snow monkey park and they were kind enough to drive us right to the entrance , they have a pass so we didnt have to walk up from the bus stop like everyone else."

"Traditional Ryokan with many onsen baths. We had our own outdoor onsen which was nice but you could also use one of the other larger onsen by free reservation, these were great. Traditional Japanese meal for dinner which was lovely and very authentic feeling. Quite expensive."

"Lovely little stay at a traditional style hotel. The onsen was very relaxing, and the hotel was a short walk away from the Snow Monkey Park and bus stations needed to get to and from the area. "

"When first arriving after a very well communicated pick up from the bus stop- the appearance was a bit deceiving. While thoughts of The Shining entered our heads it was quickly removed when our lovely host sat us down and talked with us our desires for the stay. They offer ski and boot rentals, full 5 course meals for dinner and breakfast- and the most thoughtful and attentive service one could have asked for. I would gladly come back anytime to experience their lovely graciousness again."

"Absolutely unique experience. If you want a fancy western style hotel, don’t stay here. If you want to have a genuinely Japanese experience, in an absolutely stunning area with some of the best snow I have seen in my lifetime, then add Kumanoyo to your list. Personally, I loved this place. "

"The location is good. It’s near the Kumanoyu ski area. It’s within 5 minutes walking distance. This hotel is more geared to catering to Chinese visitors who want to hit the slopes. They play Chinese-theme music during breakfast at their buffet. Their breakfast is a big spread, and the food is pretty good. The people there do accommodate you, but they are somewhat cold. If you slip on their steps and fall because of the snow, they will not come out to help you or apologize. Come here to...

"The 9 public onsens (baths) were interesting, #9 was the best imo, but the town itself is captivating. "

"A beautiful Ryokan in a typical Japanese village. A unique experience in a lovely room. Enjoy the little onsens, each one with different water sources. "

"Hotel is a traditional Japanese Ryokan and the setting is very relaxing. The best feature to us is the free private bath, to some who are shy to use the public bath, this is a very nice feature to enjoy the hot spring without stress. Hotel also offers a shuttle bus from Kaurizawa station directly to the hotel , which is a very convenient option for those who travel by train."

"The staff were extremely gracious and hospitable. All guests should probably read up on the norms of a Royakan before staying here with dinner and breakfast included and very specific slippers for specific events. This location was very accommodating of our special meal request as vegetarians."

"The rooms were very affordable and the location was a walkable distance from the station which is great. It is close very close to many restaurants and other shopping locations which is also nice.
The beds and rooms were clean but small, which during our stay wasn't a big deal. The breakfast was serviceable for our one night stay but I wouldn't recommend it for any longer if you're not strapped for time.
This place was quite budget friendly and convenient for those looking for a good value at a low price. "
"The breakfast buffet was extravaganza! I never seen that much extent of options and they were top notch! It is a big hotel so they had to limit time so we got busy exploring different items. We did not have dinner there but I wonder what it would have been like. We went out to a local mom and pop bar. The immediate area did not seem to have many options for eating out though.
The hot spring bath was nice. We enjoyed going between inside and olhalf-outside baths. We didn't do this but saw used the sauna and cold bath.
The view from the room was wonderful, looking at snow-capped mountain ridges.
The only con is that we were a family of 5 and had to get separated into two rooms. It would have been nice to stay together in one room with five futons. Maybe they were out of bigger rooms when we booked?
The location was good for a car access. It is away from the city center of Nagano so if you travel by train, a taxi ride would be needed. But we were pleasantly surprised by what this Matsushiro area had to offer. After checking out we drove a few minutes to the Matsushiro historic residential area, parked, strolled the old Shinto shrine and Buddhist temples. Then we toured into the enormous cave that Imperial Japan dug near the end of WWII to move the headquarter from Tokyo. They never actually moved, but they preserved the cave as a historic site.

"Lovely clean, friendly hotel that is near the station so easy to get to. The breakfast is wonderful and complimentary noodles are served each evening. The spa facilities are great with lovely products which are all complimentary. There is ice cream to enjoy for free after the onsen and free juice and coffee in reception! A great stay! "
"They were able to accommodate a last minute booking. Rooms were large for Japanese standard and the free breakfast was better than some we've paid for (eggs, ham, curry, soup, drinks). Would stay here again."
"Un excellent hôtel. Bonne localisation proche de la gare. Bon rapport qualité/prix. Hôtel propre, chambres confortables. Prenez une chambre rénovée, vous ne serez pas déçus!"
