Funky, fun place to stay

Quirky boutique hotel with a sense of place and history. Rooms are comfortable and service is super welcoming. The restaurant is surprisingly sophisticated and vegetarian friendly. The best breakfast in Punta Arenas!

Each room is individually decorated and they are very creative. We had a lovely balcony and very interesting fixtures in El Despacho! The restaurant is lovely and the food excellent. There is nothing quite like dining on fresh seafood while looking at the Straits of Magellan.

Great hotel in Puntas Arenas

Was very happy with La Yegua Loca. It was a real little gem. Turns out the restaurant is considered one of the best in town so since we were staying there, we could get a reservation the day of! It is a bit quirky in all positive ways / real personality and the location was great for what we wanted to walk to (although we did have a car too-- and I appreciated the parking there which was easy and free). I would highly recommend.

This was one of the best recommendations we have ever received! Our guide with Howlanders, told us about La Yequa, and when we come to Punta Arenas, it is the only place we will stay! From the moment we stepped in, it has been first class’

Great hotel, great restaurant

We only stayed at Hotel La Yegua Loca for one night in Punta Arenas, but we loved the comfort and eclectic charm of the hotel. The room was bright and spacious with a spectacular view of the town and water. The dinner we had there was outstanding. While waiting for our next day transfer, we enjoyed their delicious calafate sour drinks. Loved it!

Unique property close to downtown Punta Arenas. While this property is cozy and well appointed, the real draw is the phenomenal service and attentiveness by the staff... both in the attached restaurant and the hotel. We stayed on our wedding anniversary prior to making the trip north to Patagonia and the staff bent over backwards to make it special in every way- they truly treated us like family. Highly, highly recommended!!

Exquisite with character! I cannot praise and recommend this boutique hotel enough!!! It exudes historical charm while including history and culture of the area. The gardens are sensational. Room themes are enlivened with clever and creative repurposed articles on the theme. The food is amazing, delicious and beautiful in presentation and also representing some local favorites. The dining deck is lovely with glassed in views over the city and water. The staff are all charming and helpful and professional. We had six adult family members all delighted and all wished we could stay a week or more. Best ever!

While Punta Arenas isn’t a town you’d spend more than a day or two in, having at least two nights at this hotel allows you to enjoy its many amenities. Perched on a hill overlooking the downtown, the hotel entrance is at the end of a rough cobblestone street. Parking can be limited during restaurant hours, but we always found a spot. There are quite a few steps up to the hotel and then a few more up to your rooms, but there is always a young, friendly and energetic staff member to take your luggage to your room. From the moment you step into the courtyard garden and on to the reception room you will notice that this hotel is filled with old-world new -world charm. We stayed in the room called, “Stable” which had a balcony and separate sitting room that overlooked the glass enclosed restaurant and the town below. Creaky floors, modern bathroom, and rustic chic decor put you in the mood for the traditional Chilean meals served in the cozy and popular hotel restaurant. The restaurant staff (wearing traditional clothing) was exceptionally friendly and attentive to boot. Punta Arenas is, arguably more so than Ushuaia, THE town to see penguins. Book a boat tour to Magdalena Island to see Magellanic penguins or better yet take the ferry across to Porvenir to see one of the few king penguin colonies north of the S. Georgian Islands (requires an additional 2 hour drive). Be sure to book these two adventures well in advance though! Then enjoy returning to your charming hotel!

My stay at La Yegua Loca was nothing short of wonderful. The hotel is a beautiful tribute to Patagonia’s ranching history — every detail tells a story. From the handcrafted furniture to the creative lighting and rustic textures, you can feel the spirit of Magallanes woven in every corner. What made it truly unforgettable were the people. Everyone I met went above and beyond with such kindness and care that it felt less like a hotel stay and more like being welcomed into someone’s home. And the food — simply outstanding. The breakfast, included with the stay, was generous and delicious, and their restaurant is exceptional. Both lunch and dinner were beautifully prepared, full of authentic flavor and creativity. The cuisine alone would be worth a visit. La Yegua Loca is a special place — beautiful, comfortable, and filled with warmth. I would come back without hesitation and recommend it to anyone visiting Punta Arenas.

This hotel exceeded our expectations. The room was spacious and extremely comfortable with beautiful views and well appointed touches which provided a glimpse into Patagonian culture. The staff went out of their way to be accommodating. We can’t recommend it highly enough.

Staff was excellent and restaurant was very good. It’s decorated like an old fashioned ranch and staff dress the part too! It was in a convenient place in town in walking distance of main square and activity we were doing.

Lovely old converted building. Lots of wood. Spacious rooms. Very clean and quiet. Super friendly and helpful staff. Good breakfast. On site restaurant. I had one really good meal and one not so good, but maybe just a bad personal choice. Easy walk into town.
