I had a very pleasant stay at the Welch Motel. My room had everything I needed (except coffee, but they are reportedly getting coffee back in the office area in the near future). There was a small microwave and a nice sized refrigerator with a good freezer, not the tiny nonfunctional freezers you often find at hotels. The staff provided me with a hair dryer. I had to ask for it at the desk, but it was a full sized one and worked well. The room was very clean, the bathroom was spotless and the shower was very nice. I did have a little bit of an issue with the water getting a little chilly after a couple of minutes, but I imagine it's hard to work around an old plumbing system. It was fine, I managed.
It was so quiet there! I felt like I had the place to myself, though I know I had someone next door. I didn't even hear his TV through the wall.
The negatives: it would be great if they put a couple of towel hooks in the bathroom. There really wasn't a place to hang towels. And there was a slight musty smell in the room though I didn't smell it once I was in there a few minutes.
Overall, I would recommend the Welch and I will likely stay there again. The owners are friendly and helpful. They do not keep the office unlocked (it's attached to their living quarters) but there's a phone out front and you just call them and they will let you in.
I loved the nostalgic look of the place.
