Nice rooms for the price, had everything you need. Walls are a bit thin. Owner was a very nice chap. The food in the restaurant was reasonable, overall a pleasant stay

Was as described. Dog friendly. Staff very pleasant and helpful. Shame they don't do vegan food but guess not many places do on the moors.

Great Staff

The staff were great. There was nothing they couldn’t do to help. It really made the stay

Absolutely loved our stay in the superior room.Massive and comfortable, clean and friendly staff. Only thing we could suggest is a bigger tv and maybe a lift for people who are not able to climb stairs .Absolutely loved our stay.Thankyou

Highly recommended hotel

Cannot fault my stay here Staff were so friendly and helpful, nothing was too much trouble. I was not even allowed to carry my own luggage to the room when they knew that I had some mobility issues with stairs. Good food well presented and substantial portion sizes

Helpful staff

Arrived on Friday night and thought I had booked a table in the restaurant for an evening meal but had booked it for the wrong day. The restaurant was apparently fully booked for the night but after a quick chat with the chef they were able to accommodate me immediately. All the staff were very helpful through my stay and I will definitely be rebooking on my next visit down there.

Lovely moor edge hotel

The hotel is beautifully located right on the edge of the moor. You can walk straight out of the hotel onto the moor with great views down to Plymouth harbour in the distance and across the moor. The hotel itself is not luxurious. It is quite tired looking. However if you want to stay a few days or a week and use it as a base for walking and exploring I am sure it would be great. The breakfast was excellent and it looked as if the food wouuld be very good indeed. Sadly we were there for only one night so couldn't try it out in the evening having arrived late off the ferry

Needs updating

A dated hotel which has charm but lacking finesse. We had the superior room which first impressions was great but the wallpaper was pealing, the shower didnt work and the jacuzzi bubbles didnt work. We had to kill several flies which woke up with the warmth. The room was cold on arrival but the heating turns on at 4.30 and then takes ages to reach the room although a small fan heater is provided

I have been staying at the Moorland for over twenty five years and never disappointed. New owners are extremely helpful and food still excellent. Just need to tidy the place and carry out some decorating as the location is fantastic
Dan, 1-night trip

8/10 Very good

We enjoyed our 2 night stay here and we had a very good evening meal. A little out dated but we expected that as it’s a Moorland hotel and would rather it that way. Very near to the Hotel is the Drakes bike trail and one way is Tavistock and the other is Plymouth so makes excellent place to stay if you like biking😊

Staff were welcoming and helpful. Room was clean and welcoming although a little tired. Breakfast was pleasant - not outstanding but all ok. Plenty of tea/coffee in the room.

2/10 Poor

Our best decision was to leave !

Hotel is nowhere near the 8.8 rating on website. So bad we left after two hours at property. Hotel is tatty and unloved. Room decor was dated and scuffed. Slide door to balcony corroded and difficult to move. Balcony drainage channel with many cigarette ends. Shower grout mouldy. Bathroom floor damaged and lifting. Basin did not drain. Poor lighting in bathroom. Bedroom carpet old and stained. Small bloodstain on bed duvet. Kettle dirty on outside and stale water in it. Television damaged with part of screen blacked out and lines from crack. Dirt , debris and staining behind bed and bedside tables. The only positive feature is the surrounding area view.

Charming hotel on the edge of Dartmoor

Everything was v clean. We stayed in the Wotter Room on the second floor. Yes it could all do with a bit of a paint in patches but the room is charming and huge. The view was amazing - we could see the fireworks in Plymouth the first night that we stayed. Had a fab Nepalese curry on Wednesday followed by an Indian pudding which was delicious. Steak on the second night. The hotel is on the edge of Dartmoor but close enough to the local tourist attractions. We will definitely return.

Fab location, great staff very tramquil

Staff are freindly and very attentive, genuinely good small team. Food was beautiful and service was great, all costs were proportionate and well worth the money, which was not expensive at all. Great getaway, peaceful and quiet, great location for walking, has a DIY laundry for when needed, art deco a little outdated but the hotel has changed hands many times lately, its clean and comfortable what more do you need. Will be back

Outstanding good and friendly service! I was there for two nights and loved it. Also, the Duck Breast for Dinner was one of the best i ever had. Big compliment to the Chef in their kitchen. Would choose this hotel definitely again!

The hote is in a remote area and needs an upgrade but is a great place for people that want to hike in the National Park across the road.

Hotel is a bit tired and will benefit a refurbishment - great location with amazing views - good food & drink choice. Good breakfast

Très belle étape dans le Dartmoor

Chambre exceptionnelle : spacieuse, vue splendide, lit tres confortable, service impeccable. Nous avons très bien mangé au restaurant (agneau Madras magnifique). L'hôtel est un peu isolé au milieu de la nature.
