Location: Excellent. About 3-min walk to the Arlanda Express. Close to all types of transportation around the city for tourist attractions—subway, bus, lightrail. Walkable to shops. Breakfast: Wide variety of food including fruits and even stations for dairy -free and gluten-free. Wasn’t my favorite hotel breakfast but sufficient. Room: Even though the hallways were a bit dated, the rooms were renovated and well-reflected by the Expedia photos. The bathroom was quite small but renovated just aa the rest of the room. Noise: My room was facing the street and could hear the traffic. Usually not too bad until a loud motorcycle passes by once in a while. I had my own earplugs and was able to sleep uninterrupted with them on.

Great place to stay

Arriving in Stockholm on the Arlanda Express, this hotel is a 10 minute walk from the central station. We stayed for 4 nights in July and found it to be an excellent stay. Hotel staff could not have been more helpful whether they were printing off Power of Attorney documents for my wife to sign or opening the in-room safe that my wife managed to disable with our passports inside it on the night before checkout. (Note that the safe is a bit small and not big enough for a laptop). Hotel staff all speak much better English than my Svenska. Breakfast area has everything you will need but does get very (very) busy between about 8am and 9:30am. Coach load of American tourists during our stay all ate at the same time - they have a bus to catch! We ate out in the evenings as the hotel restaurant choices are a bit limited, but there are a enough alternatives in the immediate vicinity to make up for it. It's a little outside the main tourist area which means it's quiet in the evenings but not much public transport nearby so be prepared for a bit of walking when you have things to do. Waking to the docks to catch a boat to the archipeligo takes about 25 minutes (including the wife stopping to take photos.) We loved the Scandic Grand Central and would stay again even if only because of it's closeness to the train station. But it has more to offer than just that.

We paid for a superior room, and were glad we did, as - although it was still small - it was big enough for a few nights, and had a comfy king size bed (and kettle, which bizarrely doesn't seem to be included with lower grade rooms), and on the top floor we has a very narrow roof balcony, that was good to get some air. The bathroom was absolutely tiny, and couldn't even fit in a normal size sink, and no-one had bothered to fill the shower gel container, but this was filled when we requested it. They try and avoid offering room service, and even though we asked for our room to be cleaned (it felt like a negotiation at reception, but they pushed to only clean on the middle day of our stay, but, despite this, our small bin was never emptied, nor tea or coffee replenished). Also, although there were blackout curtains, they let lots of light in around the edges and along the top as there was no pelmet, and, with it getting light from 3am, this was a very early wake-up call. Staff were polite and the whole hotel was clean and well maintained. Breakfast was fine - and if you went through to the restaurant area there was much more space and a proper coffee machine, rather than being in the darker main area. Everything was functional but just lacked any sparkle, but the location was spot-on being 5 mins from the train station and all the main central locations being walkable.
