Super Hotel

The hotel was brand new and the staff were very friendly and I strongly recommend it. It’s also in the best part of Nunguwi and the beach is very beautiful also everything around very close to the hotel!

Great decor! Brand new wing is lovely but note is separate to the main hotel. Excellent breakfast. Very honest staff. The hotel tours team v high std and good value for Dhow and snorklong trips. Spa appraently good but disaapintingly hard to book.

The hotel is in a stunning location on a beautiful stretch of beach, best position to see the sunset. Property has a stylish decor and is perfectly maintained. Service is great. The infinity pool is amazing. We got an upgrade to the suite that was very much appreciated. Thank you for the amazing stay and we will come back!

A Perfect Solo Getaway

I recently stayed at The Z Hotel Zanzibar as a solo female traveler, and I can’t recommend it enough! From the moment I arrived, I felt completely welcomed and at ease. The staff were incredibly polite, attentive, and genuinely warm, making my stay feel personal. The food and drinks were delicious—fresh, flavorful, and beautifully presented. Whether it was a leisurely breakfast overlooking the ocean or a cocktail at the rooftop bar at sunset, every meal felt like an experience in itself. The variety and quality were impressive, with something to suit every craving. The facilities were just as great. The pool area was pristine and perfect for unwinding, while the semi-private beach was just steps away, offering stunning turquoise waters and soft white sand. The hotel itself is beautifully designed, with a boutique feel that balances luxury with laid-back island vibes. Most importantly, I felt completely safe and secure throughout my stay. The staff were attentive without being intrusive, and the overall atmosphere was relaxed yet well-managed. As a solo traveler, this made all the difference—I could fully enjoy my time without any worries. Whether you're traveling alone, as a couple, or with friends, The Z Hotel is an absolute gem. I left feeling refreshed, grateful, and I am very much looking forward to visiting again.

Two Hotels, One Name! Make Sure You Know Which One

We originally booked The Z Hotel, expecting to stay at the beautiful beachfront property with its stunning views, pool, restaurant, and gym. However, upon arrival, we were informed that we had been placed at The Z2 Hotel, a newly opened sister property located just behind The Z Hotel. While Z2 is modern and clean, it lacks the charm, atmosphere, and convenience of the original Z Hotel. What disappointed us most was that nowhere in the booking process or confirmation was it mentioned that Z2 even exists, or that we could be placed there instead of the hotel we actually chose. Guests at Z2 are allowed to use the pool at The Z Hotel, but you have to walk back and forth between the two buildings. Also, Z2 guests are not allowed to have breakfast at The Z Hotel, which added to the feeling of being separated or downgraded. Another important point, there is no elevator in the building. Considering the relatively high price, the overall experience did not feel worth the cost. If we had been clearly informed about the existence of Z2 and what it offered we would probably have made a different booking. As it stands, we felt misled, and that we didn’t get the value or experience we paid for. The Z Hotel itself is lovely with a great vibe, just make sure you know exactly where you’re staying. Z2 may suit some, but it’s a very different experience than staying at the original property. The gym at the Z hotel is great and well equipped with a nice view.

Would highly recommend this hotel. We stayed at Z2 but frequently used the facilities at Z hotel as well. Staff were so friendly and nothing was too much trouble. Room was lovely and clean, food all round at all the restaurants was amazing! Best meals we had across our holiday.

Pros: Rooms are very clean and A/C keeps room very cool. Very good spot, close to most thing in town. Pools are really nice. Cons: Long stairs, no elevators. My “pool view balcony” overlooked an ugly rooftop of the restaurant. The restaurant staff was extremely slow, I had to get up and bring things myself after asking multiple times. Access to the beach requires walking out of the hotel and going into a long tight driveway where taxi drivers drove way too fast in and we had to squeeze ourselves between trees. The spa staff was pretty much just sitting around on the couch when we entered but they said they were too busy to take us. Although the security did a good job keeping loitering away from guests, it was very annoying sitting by or going to the beach. Shower is too small for the bathroom, needs to be either bigger or a door needs to be added, since every time we took a shower half of the bathroom floor got wet.

This hotel had absolutely everything I could ask for! My only comment would be to make the distinction between Z and Z2 a bit clearer so travelers know exactly what they’re booking. Otherwise, everything was perfect. The staff were outstanding—friendly, professional, and always eager to help. The private beach with access to the public beach offered the best of both worlds, and the on-site restaurants were amazing with delicious menus. Breakfast was convenient and definitely worth it, though you can also order from a menu if you’d like something different. The rooms were spacious, spotless, and beautifully maintained. The entire property is truly out of this world. 10/10 highly recommend!

Absolut empfehlenswert! Super schönes und gepflegtes Hotel in Nungwi mit wunderschöner Anlage, sehr guter Ausstattung und hervorragendem Personal. Das Hotel hat einen gut ausgestatteten Fitnessraum, einen Spa-Bereich, einen sehr schönen und super sauberen Pool, einen bewachten Strandbereich, 2 Restaurants und eine Rooftop-Bar. Das Essen war sehr lecker, wenn auch etwas teurer (im Verhältnis zu anderen Restaurants dort). Das Frühstücksbuffet war sehr vielfältig und alles super lecker. Besonders lecker fanden wir den - vermutlich - selbstgemachten Mango-Jam und den ebenfalls -vermutlich- selbstgemachten Pineapple-Jam. Die Lage war ebenfalls prima, direkt am wunderschönen Strand von Nungwi, der bei Ebbe sehr breit war. In der Nähe gab es viele Einkaufsmöglichkeiten und sicher fühlten wir uns dort auch. Das Preis-Leistungsverhältnis passte dementsprechend. Rundum tolle 5 Tage!

The two standouts of the Z Hotel were the friendly and gracious staff (shout out to Emiliana and Latifa), and the superb seafood restaurant Sexy Fish. I ate there twice and on both occasions the recommendations were spot on. The free breakfast buffet was also excellent. Very cool interior design, with liberal use of tropical themed wallpaper mixed with African fabrics in common areas and guest rooms. Very nice infinity pool overlooking the beach. There are lounge chairs by the pool and on the beach for hotel guests. The beach itself is the classic powdered sugar sand and warm aquamarine water, though at times felt a bit congested because of the restaurant projecting out from the hotel on one side of the beach, the small boats anchored in the water, and the traffic of jet skis and horse rides in the water. It's a nice stroll along the beach, but be prepared to deal with locals hawking souvenirs and tours. I found them friendly and not overly aggressive. If you're looking to buy souvenirs, the hotel is walking distance to a bunch of shops. There are also other restaurants within walking distance if you want to sample food other than what the hotel offers.

Fantastisk beliggenhet, rett på stranden. Relativt små rom men flott innredet og svært rene. Bassengområdet er perfekt og frokost restaurant er helt unik - maten er ok, men ikke fantastisk. Når det kommer til service så ha god tid. Alt tar laaaang tid - så ikke vært for tørst eller for sulten når du bestiller. Mye personale på hele hotellet og de fleste er ganske så vennlige men det varierer. Godt utvalg av restauranter rett utenfor hotellet også - dog prisnivå likt både på og utenfor hotel. Jeg vil si ganske dyrt for det meste. Anbefales på det sterkeste

Es ist ein kleines Hotel ( 40 Zimmer) das alles bietet was man sich wünscht: schöner Strand, Spa, Fitnessstudio, gute Restaurants. Die Mitarbeiter und sehr freundlich und hilfsbereit. Zum empfehlen ist die Touren beim Hotel zu buchen. Outside könnte etwas günstiger sein allerdings mit weniger Rücksicht auf Sicherheit.

Fantastisk opphold. Nydelig basseng og strand-område, god mat med rikholdig meny. 2 restauranter og rooftop-bar. Servicen var av beste sort, alle blid, hyggelig og behjelpelig med det meste. Sikkerheten var også høyt ivaretatt med vakter overalt. God plassering med gåavstand til det meste av restauranter, barer og shopping i området. Rommet var litt lite, men så er det ikke der man oppholder seg heller. Eneste jeg har å utsette var at sengene var litt harde.
