We stayed at The Orient for a week as part of of our trip to South East Asia. The hotel was centrally located in Jakarta making it easy to access amenities, sightseeing spots, and get a feel for the city. The two pools (on the 5th and 32nd floors) provided spectacular views of downtown. The entire hotel is very stylishly designed and great thought has gone into the detail of the rooms, the corridors and the restaurants. The library is a like a gentleman's club. The jasmine scented corridors were an olfactory delight. Every meal we had was great and the staff could not do enough for us. Some standouts were Sarah and Robin in reception and Daffa, Fahrul, and Aditya in the restaurant. The Sandjong Spa and its therapists (Fitria, Sarah, Nathania and Navitta) were professional and experienced despite their youth. All in all a great stay.

Pleasant Stay

Everything was good, breakfast was very enjoyable. The only set back is the dressing mirror area in the room was really dark and missing lights and it was impossible to see properly for removal and putting on of make up.

Short stay in Jakarta

this is a reasonably new hotel with only three floors dedicated to hotel guests and the majority of the floors are residents but with a separate lobby and lifts. The hotel's decor was very interesting. The rooftop bar and pool were excellent. However, drinks were expensive and average. Our room was fairly spacious, but the interior layout was not the best. Although the king bed was very comfortable, it faced the shower and vanity, which was very odd. The staff were very friendly and always attentive. Breakfast was good. Allowed you to order items from A La Carte menu with no extra charge plus buffet items. Hotel is in the central business district of Jakarta. A taxi ride from airport only took 35 mins in the mid afternoon which is super fast for Jakarta traffic condition. Location of the hotel is close to some of the biggest shopping malls in Jakarta, very handy if you need to do shopping and dining out.

Is it a hotel w a nightclub or vice versa?

This is a classic example of an establishment who does not know whether they want to run a hotel or a bar/night club. Service from check-in was abysmal. Agent didn’t bother explaining any facilities at the hotel (it’s only a few months old!). Room design (not Bill Bensley’s finest work) is quirky without much thoughts given to lighting (inadequate around vanity with single switch controlling both lights on either side of bed). Blackout drapery fails miserably, toiletries (own brand) smells like cheap over-the-top products found in drugstores. Noise from rooftop lounge traveled all the way to room and went on past midnight. Getting back to to room at night means having to pass through crowd and absurd noise form the bar. Kids screaming in hallway from 6:30AM. Not exactly a relaxing stay, but I have to give points to comfortable bed and sheets. This hotel is more suitable for under 30s who prefers happening scenes to comfortable stay. They may attract crowd with their loud music and fancy drinks, but hotel guests should beware.

Space for improvement

We have been to The Orient Hotel already October last year and liked the design very much. We had some issues the last time already but decided to give the hotel another chance. However, while we like the design of the Hotel, the pools and the rooms very much, we once again experienced a lack in service: It still takes a long time to get warm dishes for breakfast and the service for lunch is also a bit slow. Seems that the kitchen is far away from restaurant, which is not helpful in addition if you prefer hot meals. Most annoying: on Wednesday night we returned to the hotel at 23:00. The BAr and the restaurant have been closed. We had to order meals from the room service and it took us 45 min to get at least a glass of wine. There were several waitors available at this time, but the communication with room service and them was a mess apparently. My colleage and I felt quite embarrassed as we booked the hotel for our boss and two guests of the company. There is a new director in charge and we hope that the service and the processes will get improved soon.

Amazing

Absolutely wonderful artfully appointed decor in a sea of tranquility. The whole experience was beyond expectation. The room was spacious and the bed provided the most comfortable and restful sleep. The staff were the best thing and went above and beyond to be helpful and welcoming. Modi was lovely and attended our every need and the lovely concierge was also fantastic.
