The property had great views of the Atlantic. However, the hotel needed quite a bit of updating: doors, hallways, etc. The style was like most NH hotels. The staff was great.

Just spent one night in Montevideo. Hotel was in convenient walking distance from the old part of the city and good parking option right in front. They allowed check out an hour later than usual without charge as I had an online meeting I had to complete 👍

The room had no air conditioning, which is contrary to what was advertised on Expedia. Although the explanation at the front desk was that the air conditioner in all rooms were turned off due to being winter-time, the days I stayed were summer temperatures at over 80 degrees. And to make matters worse, there were a lack of fans being distributed. If the Expedia advertising were honest and accurate concerning the air conditioners being turned off, I would have never booked the three nights. And what does it take to turn the air conditioners on for a few days? I attribute the problem to bad management.

I really enjoyed staying in this hotel. The Ciudad Vieja is a lovely area of Montevideo, with great architecture, cafes, restaurants, museums and easy access to the ferry to Buenos Aires. It’s also situated on the rambla so was very handy for going along beside the river. The room was lovely. I had a river view, comfortable bed and amenities. And a kettle! Much appreciated for a cup of tea. I used room service a couple of times for dinner and the food and service were great. All the staff I interacted with were lovely and friendly. The area is a bit of a strange one as it’s deserted at the weekend which made for a strange walk on the Sunday after I arrived. During the week it was really lively, with a mixture of locals, tourists and cruise ship guests. Recommendations are LUCCA, Sin Pretenciones and Sometimes Sunday for brunch and lunch. As in other reviews I noticed that the public areas on the floors were a bit shabby. But that didn’t really bother me. I also read about safety but it was totally fine during the day and I took a taxi at night, as I would in any city. I had a great time in Montevideo and really want to come back.

Major "ick" factor

A stay at this hotel really taught me a hard lesson on being frugal. For 30-40 USD extra for the one night, I would have had a much better experience. As soon as I got off the elevator after check in I knew I had made a horrible mistake. The hallway was dark, dank, and very much outed. Here is a list of issues with the room: The grout in the bathroom was black and molded. The shower had a leak, and I was unable to block out the noise because the bathroom door would not close. Not single light in my room worked, which I didn't realize until I got back in at midnight. I only stayed out until midnight because I desperately wanted nothing to do with my hotel. The furniture had stains all over it, to the point that I did not want my belongings to touch anything. Finally, I laid down towels before even sitting on my bed. I am not particularly picky or used to the high life of hotels, but this was just so tragic.

My wife and I booked a suite (the most expensive room type available in that hotel) for an overnight stay to attend a conference. The hotel has not been renovated since the 1990s. There are almost no electric outlets in the room so it was difficult to charge our electronics. Upon arrival we went to the restaurant for afternoon tea, which was ok but not great. Upon return to the room I tried the jacuzzi only to find that using it flooded the bathroom! Everything in the room was shabby and basic. What is more, they provide a Nespresso coffee maker but leave only ONE capsule. When I asked in reception for a second one, they charged me! Then, next morning the breakfast included was dismal. It contained exactly the same food as the tea for two we had the previous day (recycling leftovers?). When we requested to extend our check out (which is expressly mentioned in their marketing materials) so that we could attend the event until it closed, we were sternly told that while this was allowed, I had to be down in reception by 1:00 pm sharp or they would charge me for another day!! The coffee break food in the event was exactly the same as we had had for tea and breakfast and the water servedsmelled so much of chlorine that it was undrinkable.Last, they chose to clean the bathrooms during the coffee break and there were about 200 people in attendance. All in all, a bad experience.

Beautiful view

There no better way to wake up in Montevideo and see the water of Rio de la Plata. This is the view you can enjoy at NH Colombia. And that is what makes this hotel my favorite one in Montevideo so far. There is a lot more to like about that place. The service is outstanding, the breakfast great and the gym on the top floor offers a beautiful view of the city. The hotel shows its age a bit but this did not bother me at all.

Great location. The property itself has issues--the paint was peeling in the room. Breakfast was disappointing (for example the Orange Juice was watered down). Someone tried to come in my room at 8:30 AM. But there were great staff members--I was being kept up by a smoke detector light. Someone came and taped it so i would not be kept up.

Hotel excelente

O Hotel é excelente, bem localizado, limpo, os recepcionistas muitíssimo atenciosos, fizeram um mapinha para nós com restaurantes e principais pontos turísticos (fizemos tudo caminhando e foi muito bacana)! O quarto é bem espaçoso e ficamos de frente para o Rio de La Plata, uma vista linda! O quarto tem jarra elétrica e cafeteira, legal para quem quiser se hospedar sem a opção de café da manhã !
