Argenton-sur-Creuse (Indre) Chapelle de la Bonne-Dame. A la fin du XIIe siècle une vaste forteresse, dotée de dix tours occupait presque deux hectares. "Pendant les guerres du moyen-âge, le château d'Argenton fut assiégé et pris plusieurs fois. Philippe Auguste s'en empara en 1188, et quatre cents après, le 15 mars 1589, Henri IV, dans une de ses lettres, manifeste toute sa joie d'avoir pu prendre miraculeusement une place aussi forte que l'était ce château. (...) Dès l'année 1564, l'intérieur du château n'offrait p^lus que des ruines, tandis que ses énormes tours présentaient encor un front redoutable. (...) Sous le ministère de Richelieu, la destruction du vieux château d'Argenton fut résolue, et des lettres patentes de Louis XIII, du 11 juillet 1632, ordonnèrent la levée des 20 000 livres nécessaires pour subvenir aux frais de cette démolition. Vingt ans plus tard, le parlement cherchant à renouveler les troubles de la Fronde, ordonna de fortifier de nouveau le château d'Argenton, auquel on travailla en 1630 et 1651; mais Louis XIV donna enfin l'ordre de faire sauter tout ce qui restait de ces fortifications." (Dictionnaire géographique, historique, industriel et commercial de toutes les communes de France et de plus de 20,000 hameaiux en dépendant. Par A Girault de Saint Fargeau - 1844) Seule la chapelle castrale fut gardée. La Chapelle de "La bonne Dame" est un reste très remanié, à la fin du 19e siècle, par l'architecte parisien Alfred Trolliet*, de l'ancienne chapelle castrale. La statue de la Bonne-Dame d'Argenton , l'Enfant Jésus sur son bras gauche, étend son bras droit sur la ville, faisant écho à la phrase sur le portail : Posuerunt me custodem, « Ils m'ont placé là pour les protéger ». Cette statue, réalisée en cuivre rouge, avec une charpente intérieure en fer, dorée à la feuille par la Société française d'ornements de Paris est montée en juillet 1899 sur le clocher de la nouvelle chapelle. La statue mesure 6,5 mètres de hauteur et pèse 3 tonnes. On doit à Alfred Trollier l'immeuble des 23 et 25 rue du Capitaine Lagache dans le 17ème à Paris, contruit en 1890.
