"Just as well we only stayed 2 nights. Was cheap but nothing prepares you for the fact this is a converted office block in an industrial estate. Should be advertised as a hostel. Reasonably clean but stayed on a muggy day and not having aircon it was difficult to sleep."

"Our stay at Friends Hotel was very good! The room was roomy and very clean. Not much of a decor but cleanliness is important to me. The hotel is close to busy road so with the windows open it will be very noisy. I can see it being very hot in the summertime. Fortunately for us it was a 2 comfortable evenings.
Breakfast in my opinion was very good with plenty of options. They replenished often, breakfast room is not very big so it can get busy. Overall I liked our stay!"

"I asked the hotel is we could transfer our reservation to another one of THEIR hotels in a location closer to the train station. They advised to book and provide the confirmation number from their other property. I did this and after we checked in they sent a message that they would not cancel the reservation at their other hotel. So we paid for two hotels for one night. I felt very deceived by the hotel. "

"Had a wonderful 5 night stay at the hotel. I was a bit apprehensive after reading some reviews but i was pleasantly surprised. Lovely welcome from check in staff and given lots of information about the hotel and surrounding area. Hotel lobby is impressive, superior double room was spacious, clean and aircon worked perfectly.
Breakfast was plentiful and you can order different eggs/bacon from the waitress. My only very small gripe would be that the toaster took ages so put your toast on whilst you enjoy some cereal!
The lifts were mentioned in alot of other reviews, to be honest it would be better if all 3 were working but we never had long to wait and we were on holiday so not in a hurry to get anywhere.
Central location right by lots of bars/ restaurants and a very short walk to the Rhine.

Lift stop in front of reception so easy to carry suitcases etc .Room very clean and comfortable. No noise from street .Very close to places of interest River Rhine cathedrals and buses and ferry. Shops and places to eat on same street just outside hotel so very convenient. Did not have breakfast in hotel as a bit expensive."

"The Hotel Niu is one of the best hotels I've ever stayed in. After a horrific commute into the country, the welcome to the hotel was second to none. Daniel was an absolutely fantastic host on the reception, he asked if I wanted a queen bed, as floors below the 4th floor were 2 single beds pushed together. I asked to have the queen and that was the room we were given. We got breakfast included with our stay and also signed up for the IHG Rewards. Daniel was an incredible host, he made us feel so welcome and he went above and beyond for us. He gave us brilliant recommendations for places to see, eat and drink across Cologne like a local! Sebastian was an equally wonderful staff member who kept us entertained behind the bar every night! He was such a joy to be around and he was so friendly and attentive. The cocktails were also fantastic! I would come back to the Niu simply for these staff members! I also loved the breakfast, it was replenished very regularly, offering a huge variety of options for every taste. The room was a lovely size, enough room for all of our things and the bed was so comfy! I adored everything about this hotel and I would highly highly recommend it!"

"This is a really nice hotel, in a building that is 100 years old this year. The beds are very comfortable, bathroom facilities are good, with a decent shaving mirror. The breakfast was good and was sufficient for me requiring a vegan menu, although would have liked vegan sausages, but the ham and salami substitutes made up for that.
Sadly the area around the hotel has seen better times. The U-bahn station is opposite the hotel’s main entrance and the staircases and elevators stink of urine, and could do with a visit from the Cologne City Cleansing Department.
It is also right next to Hansaring S-bahn Station which has connections to Cologne Hauptbahnhof, and other regional stations in the North Rhine-Westphalia region such as Dusseldorf, Aachen, and Koblenz which we visited using the hotel as a base to sleep and have breakfast.
It is also less than 1 mile away from the Cologne Cathedral, which is a nice walk down quiet back streets."
