"The hotel is right on the beach and surrounded by shops, restaurants, and bars. The room was cute and quirky. The bathroom is extremely small and cramped… not appropriate for more than one person at a time… but that was the only real downside for us. The bed was large and comfortable and the air conditioner worked great! It was a great choice for us… we stayed 5 nights and filled our days with excursions and hanging at the beach and the many bar options close by."

"The stay was great the personnel and the installations are so nice. The Breakfast is good, the pool outside the room is a plus. The access to the Beach Club adds an additional value. The best is the personnel, in our case after the checkout we take a sunset catamaran tour and they let us to keep the car in their space and when come back they allow us to use the shower and give us towels and soap, that’s their level or service. Surrounding there are constructions that creates dust but to be fair that don’t cause an inconvenience to us. Thinking to visit this place soon!!!"

"I’m so glad I found Refugio Lodge for my stay in Tamarindo! From the moment I booked, I felt like more than just a guest—Agustin and the team made me feel like a friend. Agustin was amazing with communication, always available to chat, offer great local recommendations, help with booking shuttles or anything else I needed. The entire staff was warm, welcoming, and genuinely cared about making sure we had a great experience. The cafe is the morning gathering space where you’ll always find amazing coffee — roasted on site, and a delicious breakfast. The lodge itself has a really heartwarming origin story behind it—definitely ask about it when you visit! And as a bonus, the sweetest cat named Pega lives on site and loves greeting guests. "Is a very nice resort, the buffet food had a good variety. They had fruit out at every meal. The staff was very helpful. We went to italian restaurant for one dinner, the food was excellent. The service was excellent there too. The check in and out was quick. Remember to drink water, it is very warm outside, especially when you are in sun. The beach was beautiful but it has a lot of large rocks. I am not a beach person but ocean views were spectacular. "

"The A/C worked really well and the rooms were perfect for our family of four. The shower worked great. Our favorite part was waking up in the morning to the patio table set for breakfast and a delicious, fresh meal made as soon as we came out. Our girls enjoyed the pool and I enjoyed that we could watch them from under the fan on our patio. This was a great spot with easy walking to restaurants and the beach too! "

"Very quiet spot, does not feel like the rest of Tamarindo. Walking distance to shops restaurants, and beaches. My wife and I were kicking off a month in Costa Rica and it was an excellent transition spot. The apartment felt very homey with a very comfortable king bed and a very nice kitchen area with a table. The bathroom was also massive. A full coffee maker with coffee was provided. There was a full refrigerator and all the utensils we needed. They had a filtered water dispenser that served up cold water. They also had a nice little pool. Would definitely stay again if we are ever in Tamarindo."

"We loved our stay in Las Catalinas! We stayed in a beautiful three-level, two-bedroom home with incredible views—sunsets from the balcony were unforgettable. The town itself is incredibly charming and totally walkable. Everything is thoughtfully designed, and it feels both upscale and relaxed. The only thing missing was a great boulangerie—while there is one in town, it was often nearly empty. A full boulangerie with more variety would be the perfect addition to this otherwise fantastic community. "

"The hospitality was outstanding. The bar and restaurant staff were so nice and kind; and got to know us on a first name basis. The room was beautiful. The shower was next level. The double shower heads and the outside view had me taking multiple showers a day. Additionally the view from our partial ocean view room was beautiful. I would definitely return to this property."

"Access to the hotel is down a dirt road and through a gate. The area felt very safe and quite with not much traffic. This hotel is part of a sister hotel of maybe 5 rooms that is a short walk away to get to the main office. Staff was very responsive and helpful through WhatsApp. The room was comfortable and what I would expect staying in at a nature preserve. Not luxurious if you are used to staying at a big name hotel. Access to the beach is a short walk across from the office. There is a restaurant and coffee shop at the hotel as well as other restaurants and a small market in the surrounding area that is walkable. There is also a small pool on the property. Expect to get woken up by birds or Howler monkeys in the morning. Various animals can be seen walking around the community such as Spider monkeys, coatis, or crabs. It was raining most afternoons while we were there but we did get the pleasure of a seeing the beautiful sunset at least once during our stay. I also got to see fireflies for my first time and it was amazing. This was a great place to stay if you are looking for a quite area without the hoards of people and shops like in Tamarindo. But if you want to visit Tamarindo you can walk down the beach and take an inexpensive short boat ride to Tamarindo which was much more convenient than trying to drive there. "
