"Beautiful nature and safari in Yala was amazing. When walking into the hotel reception you get the impression of the hotel being luxurious as advertised. However, when dining, getting to the pool area and into the accommodation everything is outdated and in poor/tires condition.
Quite disappointed, as the hotel was quite expensive, the food was bad to mediocre, and they charge a ridiculous service charge/tax on over 30(!!)%.

"Amazing staff and magical place! We enjoyed a BBQ dinner and did a morning safari. Facilities could be a bit better maintained but it seems to be a standard in Sri Lanka :) "

"We only stayed one night in the properttas part of our tour of the island. The room was large and clean with ensuite facilities and lovely hot showers. It is located close to the Yala park entrance and is surrounded by jungle.
We also took the optional safari and cannot recommend it highly enough. The service was excellent and we saw plenty of wildlife including elephants really close. The recent wet weather meant that they were not out hunting, but we saw virtually every other animal on our...

"This hotel was a real disappointment. We checked in at 7.00pm and checked out at 8.30pm that very night. We had booked 2 chalet rooms. There were gecko droppings on the sheets. The room had a stale smell. The bath area did not have any lighting and it was not clean. The walls between the rooms were very thin and we could hear the baby crying in the next room and also their conversations. The towels had stains on them and it had a peculiar smell. There were also lots of mosquitoes. When we...

When the beach is calling your name, you might want to head down to Palatupana Beach, located 1.1 mi (1.8 km) from central Palatupana. Enjoy the sunset by the shore at Kirinda Beach.
"Spent 2 amazing nights here for safari tours situated right outside the national park. The hotel staff and location is amazing. The cabanas are beautiful and air conditioned. We even had elephants in the lagoon outside our room one night. As additional the safaris are excellent, the park is dripping with wildlife, we booked directly from yalla national park but the hotel does similar tours do a full day as 1/2 is not enough."
"Wow, what an experience. When we pulled up into the camp, there was an elephant just there (a tusker no less). The standards were consistently high from there. We were well looked after by the manager Ravi, with impeccable service throughout. My wife's gluten free requirement being well looked after. The views are stunning, the food was great. At camp we sat and watched birds, and beyond seeing an elephant we saw a leopard just crossing the road outside! Before going to bed... Shine a torch into the canopy overhead, and there was a polecat (civet), desperately climbing away from us!
Two days of safari in yala, were two of the best of our lives. Elephants, leopards, bears, birds, jackals, buffalo... Achi (driver) made sure we didn't miss a thing. 10/10, if you love nature, don't hesitate to stay here.
One thing to note is the price doesn’t include safari.
Top tip - take ear plugs, you really are completely surrounded by nature all the time."
"We loved staying here. The rooms were large, clean, and very comfortable. The owner organized the safari for us and had prepared a to-go breakfast for us as well. We would come back here and stay for sure! "
"Toilet Malfunctions – The toilets in the room were not functioning properly. They were not flushing or refilling, causing significant inconvenience.
No Room Change Offered – Despite reporting the issue, the hotel did not offer an alternative room or any assistance to resolve the matter.
Language Barrier – None of the staff members were able to communicate in English, making it very difficult to get help or explanations.
No Buffet Service – The hotel failed to open the buffet as expected, with no prior notice or explanation.
Disturbance at Night – There were multiple incidents of people knocking on our door in the middle of the night, which was alarming and unacceptable.
Poor Service – Overall, the service provided by the staff was unprofessional and unhelpful.
Random Door Knocking – We felt unsafe due to unexplained and random knocking on our door throughout the night."
"Really nice place surrounded by nature and adjacent to a serene lake. Lots of birds to watch while sipping your tea on your private patio and even the odd visit from neighbhood monkeys. Rooms are clean, with ceiling fan and AC, with very few bugs/mosquitoes inside.
The staff are incredibly helpful and kind. They also offer safari from 4 hours to full day at seemingly standard prices. We did a six hour private safari for 31K PP where we saw elephants, mongooses, loads of birds, and even (just about) a leapord.
Food is good, simple, traditional vegetarian Sri Lankan cuisine. No fresh coffee and no alcohol served but seemed ok with others bringing their own. The biryani comes with the local buffalo curd which is delicious."
"Incredible place to spend a few nights while we enjoyed the peace and serenity as well as two safaris. The food was the best we had during our stay in Sri Lanka and the staff was incredible as well. "
"A special place close to Yala that makes you feel like you’re in the park. Small staff was so friendly and lovely, and I felt well taken care of. Delicious meals—often candlelit and with an outdoor grill. Room was air conditioned and well appointed, despite the jungle setting. Only caution: there probably will be some wildlife in your bathroom! They also organized my safaris in the park, as well as pick ups and drop-offs, which I appreciated."
"There was an infinity swimming pool overlooking, the wilderness, it was stunning and unforgettable. The hotel was to a high standard overall. Would return. "
"Very nice place for hair relaxing and enjoying the resort with a few birds, monkeys, squirrels and butterflies. Loved the place. Thanks to the manager Yomal for looking after me. I will come back again. 😊"
"First of all,the staff were so welcoming and so attentive, the hotel itself is beautiful and very modern/simplistic,which is a style we liked very much. They organised the safari at Yala for us which was brilliant - only wish we had stayed longer - our favourite hotel in Sri Lanka"
"Great location to Yala park for safaris and as soon as we arrived they booked this for us and arranged that we had a breakfast to take due to the early start. Nice pool.
It is a really nice hotel but looks like it hasn’t been updated in many years, such as a snooker table with many tares on it. Room could have been cleaner. At checkout the staff member asked us to review for them when we were still there which I didn’t like so didn’t do. "
"We used the hotels as a base for a safari tour and it was an ideal base. The location is great, being a short walk (1500m) out of Tissa.
Lake Wind Resort is a beautiful heritage building that has had life injected again by new management. The team could not have been more helpful and attentive.
We had a few minor issues, such as a very minor leak (understandable as the build has recently had work done), but the team addressed promptly and properly. Don’t let that put you off because the hotel was very clean, comfortable and had AC, cold fridge and served good food. Breakfast on the veranda was memorable, it is such a beautiful setting, the omelette and fruit was delicious and so well presented.
We walked along the lake each evening and enjoyed seeing the locals spending time and having fun there.
I have added a few photos for information.
We really enjoyed staying at the hotel and wish the team well as they definitely looked after us."
"Amazing location with a super helpful team of people. The perfect location for a safari at Yala wildlife park as it is 10 minutes from the entrance. "
"This was one of the worst hotel experiences I’ve ever had. The room itself was dirty—stained bed sheets, no duvet - just a thin sheet, plugs falling off the walls with exposed wiring, clumps of dust and towels that were old and fraying at the edges. There wasn’t even a bottle of water in the room.
The worst part? They gave us a room that was already occupied by another guest. Imagine walking into what you think is your room, only to find someone else already there. It was deeply embarrassing and unsettling, and yet there was no apology from the staff.
To add to the frustration, when I asked for a spare room key as I was sharing a room with a family member, receptionist told me she’d already given one to the other guest and when I explained that I needed my own as I had a few plans on my own, she rolled her eyes before finally handing over a card—begrudgingly.
The corridors were pitch black, with no lighting whatsoever, making it dangerous to walk through. Worse still, the only way to get to the first floor was via an open staircase. When it rained, the floor became slippery, and with no warning signs, it was a complete hazard.
The entire experience felt unsafe, unprofessional, and deeply unpleasant. The standards of this hotel had gone downhill significantly. "
"Absolutely beautiful property. Right on the beach with easy access. Hanuman langur monkeys were right outside the room. They were so cute!
Room had poor lighting, but everything else was perfect! Hotel next door has a superb buffet- best i have ever eaten in terms of variety!
Access road was bad and there was no place for our driver to stay so he had to find his own lodging."
"We had an excellent stay! Staff were extremely helpful and friendly. Room was very clean and had everything we needed.
